82 hood alignment bumpers missing

I have recently purchased an all original 22k mile car. It is a late production model , September 82. It doesn't have any hood alignment bumpers. It also has no screw holes where they would have been attached. I notice most 82's have them. Did they not install them because the hood fits perfectly or did they run out or just forgot to put them on. Anyone know of this as I would like to have an all original car but I don't want to drill holes to install them.
